Slaying the Giant Killer

For the whole sotry --
'Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) is coming and it will wipe out all your Hemlock Trees!!!'

A scary thought.

Hemlocks are the largest and oldest in the Acadian Forest.

We have over 75 Hemlocks that are over 80 inches around ... you need two people reaching around to touch fingers.  And about 10,000 more of various sizes.

So what to do?
Cut down all the Hemlocks before HWA arrives??
Resign myself to an ecological disaster ... on our property as well as many others throughout Nova Scotia???

There must be a positive approach.

So here's my plan:

  • Celebrate what we have with a gentle message about how individuals can help
  • Donate any money raised to the front lines of prevention
I pitched my idea to Awesome South Shore and received a $1000 to bring it to life.

Most of the funding is for the photo contest prizes. (artists are *always* being hit up for freebies ... this is a small way of saying Thank you!)

The first part is to get photo submissions of awesome tree and forest pictures from across the province.  The deadline is Friday September 14, 2018.

Next up is to produce a 2019 calendar with with images that you would like to look at for 365 days.  The calendar will be professionally printed and available by October 31, 2018.

Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to fight this new, unwelcome visitor to our forests so we will only produce what we have pre-sold.

If you take pictures or are intersted in a calendar, please visit our website for more information :
