The Toolkit
Wednesday, January 18, 2017Ok, I admit that I have more than a casual interest in technology. And when it strikes me, I am a control freak. But this is so cool!
I found an app that turns my cellphone into an amazing GPS device. It will record paths I've taken (ie: recording all the roads in our forest), I can tag particular points with GPS coordinates (ie: boundary markers, areas of interest on the property), view a detailed aerial map with any data I've recorded and, AND ... upload it all to Google Maps.
Add the tree data to a Google spreadsheet -- date, location, diameter, height, general condition ... now we're cookin'!
A complete system to measure, record and analyze my forest for about $5. God I love technology when it works :-)
